Young Adults: We understand how complicated our lives can be. As we are trying to be successful, our lives can go in multiple directions. In many churches, the young families are often overlooked when it comes to worship and church leadership. This is not the case at Salem Congregational Church.
We have a group called the Tweeners. The name was chosen because we are not in the Youth Group and we are not Retired. We are in between, the Tweeners. The Tweeners are made up of singles, married, divorced, with and without kids; anyone between 20-50. We get together every so often to have fun. One night we met with two Wii Consoles set up on projectors and had a tennis and bowling tournaments. It was a great turnout and everyone had a lot of fun.
We have a weekly study that is held on Sunday mornings from 9:45 – 10:45am and the nursery is available.
Salem Study Circle: The purpose of the Salem Study Circle is to enable the women of the church to enrich their lives through group study of the Bible, and discussion of some of the issues, which Christians must face in their daily lives. Generally, a topic is chosen and pursued for an entire Circle year, with each meeting dealing with a specific phase of the over-all topic. The Bible study is under supervision and leadership of the president or guest speaker.
Meetings: The Salem Study Circle holds its monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, except during the months of June, July, and August, when a summer recess is taken. The meetings begin at 9:00 in the morning with coffee and fellowship. A devotional period precedes the Bible study. A brief business session concludes the morning gatherings. A summer schedule will be announced for workdays to prepare for the annual bazaar. Crafts and canned goods will be made.
President - Paulyne Langhofer; Vice President - Connie Frank; Secretary - Joyce Maser; Treasurer - Ginny Schlager
Men’s Prayer Breakfast: We have a monthly prayer breakfast on the second Saturday at the Skyport Restaurant which is located at the Scottsbluff Airport beginning at 7am.
Friendly Circle: The purpose of the Friendly Circle is to enlist the retired women of the church in the fellowship of worship, service and giving; and to support the programs of the Salem Congregational Church as it serves the causes of Christ in the community and throughout the world. The purpose of this women’s organization shall be furthered whenever possible by the individual members of the Circle as whole encouraging each other to become more like Christ from day to day.
The members of the Friendly Circle meet regularly on the first Tuesday of each month. The meetings are held in the Church Fellowship Hall and begin at one-thirty (1:30 P.M.) in the afternoon. The meetings are comprised of Group singing, scripture readings, prayer, a Bible Study discussion and a business session. Refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed at the close of the business meeting. Special social events are also held during the Circle calendar year.
German Singers: The Salem Church German Choir had the honor of performing at the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC) at Sioux Falls, South Dakota on July 22. The choir is composed of descendents of the Germans from Russia who settled on the Great Plains in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The membership includes voices from Salem, Zion and Emmanuel churches. Their purpose in forming this choir several years ago was to preserve some of the German songs that were a vital part of their spiritual heritage. Because there were no recorded musical notes of these songs, they had to devise their own. This came about when their dear friend, Emmanuel Frank (now deceased) would sing the tune to their director and pianist, Paulyne Langhofer, and she in turn would compose the song on the piano. With the help of their translator, Riney Eskam, they put it all together. By singing at various local events and recording their songs on a CD, this dedicated choir is making an important contribution of the preservation of this heritage as well as touching the heart strings of many of our elderly citizens and church members. Their CD's can be yours too, simply by calling the office and ordering one. Here is a sample Click
Sunday School
We meet every Sunday Morning at 9:45am to encourage and to lift up our children in the knowledge and love of Christ.
AWANA
Our Vision: We want to help parents raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ through:
• Fully integrated programs for preschool through 6th grade
• Evangelism tools to reach the children of our community
• Teaching that builds an enduring biblical faith
• Resources that bring children and parents together to disciple the next generation
• Age-appropriate appeal for children
Youth Group:
We want to help the teenagers to be better prepared for life during and after high school by making better decisions now. We meet every Wednesday night at 7pm to have fun, but more importantly, to discuss from a biblical perspective the things that they are facing every day.
